Boarding School |
"It's not you..it's me ." While we are sad to see you go, we know that parents send their children away for a myriad of reasons. Perhaps it's to be closer to grandma and grandpa in the U.S. Perhaps mom and dad also went to the UK for boarding school and want junior to experience that as well.
Whatever the reason, we wish you the best and hope your time at SPCC has been memorable. The process of applying overseas is not an easy one and requires planning ahead. Applying to boarding schools in the US is tedious and almost as time consuming as applying for University. That said, we will be elbow deep in Form 6 university applications when your boarding school apps are due in January, and we give priority to our Form 6 students. We recommend parents start this process very early and keep organized. If you email or call and ask for something to be done ASAP, it's not going to happen (ie. transcripts take at least 2 weeks, teacher recommendations take at least 2 weeks, counselor recommendations take at least 2 weeks, mid-year reports require 3 weeks.) UK boarding schools are simpler and require usually only a recommendation letter from our office. We try to take care of all of these in the summer when things are slow. We recommend parents do so as well. Do keep in mind that if your child goes to boarding school overseas, we will not be helping him/her out with their University applications later, even if they apply to Hong Kong universities. That will be the job of your future boarding school. |
I'm thinking about sending my child to a boarding school. What do I need to do?
What we need from you:If you plan on leaving SPCC, here are a few things to note:
Step 1 ) Mail a typed up letter addressed to the Principal's office explaining that you plan on enrolling your student in boarding school overseas. This is our school policy and a formality that must be acknowledged. What you need from us:Next Steps : What you need from us solely depends on where you plan on sending your kids.

*Please note we do not send letter of recommendations home with students. They are always confidential. This goes for teacher recommendations and school recommendations alike.
