About UsWe're your friendly Further Studies and Careers Center located on the 5th floor of the school library. We saw a way to not only ease parental stress, but also create more transparency in the application process. We like streamlined applications and are slightly o.c.d. about firm deadlines. If that's one thing we can teach our students when they graduate and move onto the real world.. it's that "deadlines are not a suggestion". We're here to help parents and students alike so stop by for a chat!

Positive Parenting Through this Process
"Today raising children has become just another tool for self-promotion, with report cards and team wins another badge of honour for the parent"- David Brooks, The Road to Character
Over parenting is a huge problem in this current generation. It's a global phenomenon really, but incredibly prevalent in East Asia. All we can do is to make our corner of the school a better place as we are committed to helping our F6 students succeed. I would encourage you to read the book "How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Over-parenting Trap and Prepare your Kid for Success" by Julie Lythcott-Haims and watch her TED talk.
How to foster positive education and independence through the college application process is one of our goals. We encourage students to research universities on their own as opposed to just coming in expecting information fed to them. This results in a few things 1) they feel ownership in their applications 2) more responsibility 3) pride in that it is actually their own work that got them in- thus building confidence.
I've been encouraged by the number of students who come in and start off the conversation with "So I did some research and emailed the admissions rep the other day. I'd like your advice on how I should approach this personal statement- I have a few ideas" We love hearing that because it shows that the student is actually committed and has already taken some time to investigate what university is a good fit for him/her.
